Funk File
FUNK FILE is where I archive the strange wisdom, signals, and codes hiding in plain sight. I explore culture, work, identity, soul, design, media, and more through a lens that refuses flattening and a mind that moves with the bassline.
This is a place for the undernamed, the in-between, and the beautifully unresolved. A place to get grounded when the map gets fuzzy, and to find guideposts when the usual ones stop singing. There will always be unknowns, and I’m interested in the kind of meaning you can only hear when you stop forcing everything into the status quo.
FUNK FILE is named for the frequency I’ll always return to. Before I knew “see Jane run,” I knew “psycho-alpha-disco-beta-phioaquadoodoo.. a motion picture underwater starring most of youdoo” the sound of Black music as instruction and revelation. The groove is a way forward. I may not jam like James Brown, play bass like Bootsy Collins, or crank like Chuck Brown, but this is my way of waving my Flash Light and letting the funk point toward what’s next.
Here, I write from the magical margins, transmuting it into method and remixing that method into motion. If you’re looking for a place that’s grounded but alive, reflective but a little electric, keep this file open.
